Simply put, The Parable Project is a challenge to the greater Raleigh community to use its time, talents and resources to raise funds for those in need. From now until January 30th, 2011, The Parable Project is challenging individuals and businesses within the Triangle area to join with us and help bless those in the community which we call home.

As our momentum grows, we desire to reach the masses, blessing not only those in the greater Raleigh area, but also in communities beyond our local borders. This project is not about a single person, group or idea – it’s a challenge to a community to unite and bring change to those in need.

The idea for this project was inspired by the parable in the Bible (Matthew 25:14-30; Luke 19:11-27) which tells of a master who went away for a season, entrusting three of his servants with different amounts of money (or “talents” as they were called back then). The master fully expected his servants to invest their money wisely and make a profit in his absence. Two of his servants did exactly as they were told, using that which they had been given to multiply their funds. The third servant, however, chose to bury his money in the ground, earning no return on his master’s original investment. Upon the master’s return, the first two servants were praised for their hard work and diligence while the third was met with scorn and condemnation.

As individuals we’ve all been given specific gifts that can be used to bless those around us. For you maybe it resources, time or an encouraging attitude – we all have a unique “talent” if you will. This project is a charge to the community to band together, be creative, and MULTIPLY our talents! This is our goal and vision – this is where The Parable Project takes flight…

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, Northpark Church will disburse $15,000 into the community in increments of $150. The challenge is simple. Each person, family or team (or “Multipliers” as we like to call them) will invest the funds they’ve been given according to their unique set of talents. Over a three month period, each Multiplier will seek outlets in order to earn the largest return possible. On January 30th, 2010, funds will be collected and the proceeds will be used to support community organizations, projects and events that make a tangible difference in our community.

The Parable Project has committed upfront to give at least $15,000 to Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (www.wihn.org). A percentage of all monies raised above the initial $15,000, no matter what the amount, will be divided up and given to other local non-profits. The balance will be used to develop on-going community resources and to fund outreach facilities that will be maintained by the ministries of Northpark Church.

This is much more than a fundraiser. It’s a vision…and a calling….and an expectation to see lives changed as we band together and unite for a common goal. What’s to come with this project is somewhat unknown, but through hard work and an unrelenting vision, the possibilities are endless. DON’T BURY YOUR TALENT. Join the movement!
